The autumn meeting of the Church Council was held this week with the following highlights…
Pastoral Care – It is wonderful to have new people in worship; we welcome you and hope to get to know you better. If anyone would like to find out more about becoming a church member please speak to me or Ann Howard, Pastoral Visitors Secretary.
Worship – Our annual Memorial Service is on Sunday 31st October, remembering all those who have died, especially those in the last year. We hope to hold an All Saints Day Service on Monday 1st November. Likewise there will be a Remembrance Day Service on Thursday 11th November (in lieu of our Wednesday Service), ahead of the Remembrance Sunday Service which will hopefully be held on the Village Green.
Finance – As at the end of the Methodist financial year our bank balances totalled approximately £43,000. We have recently received correspondence that the late Margaret Holt has bequeathed £30,000 to the Church for which we are most grateful, as we are for all who support the life of the church in many ways, financially, in service and prayer.
God in Love Unites Us Report – In the summer, the Methodist Church received and accepted this report, which allows local churches, if their Church Council agrees, to conduct same sex marriages. We agreed that at our Church we will hold an extraordinary Church Council to consider this matter to which any member of the church can attend and hear the background to this option and to share their views. Only Church Council members will be able to vote on the issue, which will be to either allow, or not, same sex marriages, or to agree that at this stage we are unable to make a decision. Date to follow.
Ainsdale Methodist Church & Ainsdale Village Church – People reflected that the service held with the Village Church as well at the social gathering in the Community Garden were very positive experiences. We agreed to continue to explore our relationship with them and further details will be issued shortly.
